The Clayton Civic Center is a site with a lot of history. Joel Clayton started a small vineyard and winery on the land. After his death, his heirs sold it to Paul De Martini. At one point, it was one of the most productive wineries in the nation. While it did change hands a few times, the city purchased the property in 1988.
In a later renovation project, the city converted the property into offices, the police department, and other facilities.
